The Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs is sponsoring a Summer Workshop on Teaching Terrorism for faculty and graduate students at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The workshop will be held at Morehouse College June 16-24, 2007. This workshop will: 1) offer an intensive short-course on the fundamentals of terrorism; 2) introduce academics to new and innovative techniques utilized to teach terrorism; and 3) provide access to high-level officials working in the intelligence and counter-terrorism fields. The workshop will also feature expert specialists from the DHS Centers of Excellence. This workshop will integrate curriculum content from the DHS Centers of Excellence, including material on the social-behavioral causes and consequences of terrorism, terrorism risk analysis, food security, zoonotic disease defense, and catastrophic event preparedness and response. We will update the speaker list as we confirm. If selected to attend this workshop, ALL EXPENSES WILL BE PAID, including instruction and course materials, all meals, accommodation, and travel expenses (ground and air transportation to the workshop). Finally, during this workshop there will be a specialized session on ways MSI participants can seek funding from DHS S&T for research and education initiatives.
